Olaudah Equiano was a African slave, a free man, and an author who wrote the first autobiography of African slave literature.
Equiano was born in 1756, in Nigeria. At the age of 11, he was sold into slavery. For 30 years he was a servant, sailor, and trader. He traveled around Europe and North America and wrote about slavery. After the Seven Year War, in 1763, Equiano was sold into slavery. Equiano eventually gained his freedom.
Equiano is known for The Interesting Narrative of The Life of Olaudah. This told the story of he became free and why slavery should be abolished. He lectured in England and other European countries about slavery.
